The Lake Hume Cycle Challenge (LHCC) has been organised by the Rotary Club of Bellbridge-Lake Hume for 22 consecutive years (1999-2020). Prior to the LHCC event, the club ran an annual Albury triathlon event. Both were run as fundraisers. Beneficiaries were selected on an annual basis as what was considered the most worthy cause at that time.
In 2012, ride proceeds went to the Border Wellness Centre; a support group for cancer suffers. With the proposal to build a cancer treatment centre in Albury Wodonga, and a dedicated wellness facility within that, the club made this the beneficiary of the of the 2013 LHCC.
With the construction and operation of the cancer facility, the event proceeds have continued to go to the Wellness Centre within the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre for the past eight (8) years. Total donations from the event to date are over $200,000.
As the event has grown, the club needed more sponsorship support; new skills; and to partner with an increasing number of volunteers and “community helpers”.
The 2022 Lake Hume Cycle Challenge was the start of a new era, with a joint Organising Committee comprised of representatives from the two Rotary clubs, Bellbridge Lake Hume and Albury North.
The Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund (AWRCCT) assists with event promotion and continue to be the main beneficiary for the 2022, 2023 and 2024 LHCC events.
